Filipino Night

December 13, 2011

What an awesome day of fellowship with God’s people! Alei and I had a wonderful time presenting our ministry to Holland Church last November 13. We kicked off our Filipino day with a message as I was invited to preach Sunday morning. I talked about believers being the aroma of Christ. After 3 services I was exhausted but it was awesome  to share God’s Word. After the second service we set up our Sari-sari store (it is a convenience store found in the Philippines. The word sari-sari means “variety” in Tagalog). It was great to share a little bit of Filipino culture. We brought some merchandise from the Philippines that people bought as souvenirs and gifts for the Christmas season.

That night we had Filipino food for dinner, prepared by Alei and the Calianga family. The people enjoyed our Chicken Adobo with lots of garlic, Pork Estofado with Pineapple, Beef Mechado that was really tender, Pancit Bihon, and the kids couldn’t get enough of the Bibingka (rice cake). After dinner we had an icebreaker, presented a video of our ministry and our shared our needs. We are very encouraged by the church’s involvement and their desire to support us by praying for our ministry.

The donations that we gathered during our Filipino night went to our vehicle fund. A vehicle is one of the needs that we are raising funds for. We have created a gauge to show the development on our vehicle fund.

Praise God we are currently at 10%!!

Finally Home!!

December 13, 2011

Finally home after what should have been a six-month stint. What a sweet blessing it was! Alei and I arrived back in the states the morning of September 3, after an 18-hour flight. That wasn’t the first time we tried to come home. We actually bought tickets for an August 12 departure. Alei and I packed our things, got to the airport and made it to the ticket counter. Aside from her visa, we didn’t know that Alei had to secure a certificate from the government for her exit and clearance for me since I am a foreigner. Yet another delay. We then had to rebook our tickets and get more documents. It was frustrating, but we believed that in the end God’s purpose would be revealed. So September 3 came and we got to the airport (again). After 18 hours of flying, we finally arrived in Boston! I let myself get excited because we were finally on American soil!!! It was a sweet moment. The Bible tells us to be thankful in all circumstances, and looking back on the days of testing we praise God for those moments, because God has revealed Himself to us in ways we could never have imagined.

Visa Update!

The interview went well… we are just waiting for a few documents from the States & our visa will soon be processed. God is good. He sets our time, our coming & going. Please continue to pray with us. We are excited to go home & see family, friends & supporters. It’s going to be a sweet time of reunion & fellowship. I have been here in the Philippines for 2 1/2 years now, and it’s only by His grace that I am able to get by everyday. My furlough has been long overdue, but we are close to coming home. The reason I am twice as excited to go home is because I’m bringing home my wife Alei. I am so excited to introduce her to all of you there!

We’ll keep you guys updated for more info on our visa situation.

Video Project

March 31, 2011

Hallelujah! We finished a large part of our video project for a missionary here in Manila. The ministry caters to former street kid vendors. The originators responded to God’s call of sheltering these poor children and bringing them to the only hope they have… Jesus Christ. 2011 ACTION Field Conference

March 31, 2011

This past March 20 was our organization’s yearly field conference. Alei & I had a great time of fellowship with other ACTION missionaries. We were blessed by their testimonies & encouragement. As Hebrews 10:24 & 25 says, “Let us consider how to stir up each other to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Believers need fellowship with one another. Alei & I were very encouraged to have that time with them. We are thankful for the friendships we have here with our fellow missionaries. They prayed for us & expressed their commitment to keep us in their prayers. And we also loved how we all sat in a circle and shared our prayer requests. Someone also expressed his desire to pray for the married couples in the field. It’s a wonderful team we have here!

Other than a great time of fellowship we also a wonderful time worshipping the Lord. I was asked to lead worship for this year’s conference. Along with me leading worship Alei was able to play the keyboard with me. Many people didn’t know that Alei knows how to play the keyboard. She used to play during Sunday worship services at her church.  I suggested to my wife that we both play worship songs at the conference, so we took that wonderful privilege of serving the Lord through music together. It was awesome playing music with my wife for the Lord!

Coffee, Tea and Purity 2

February 27, 2011

Awesome night of fellowship & celebrating God’s mighty hand at work!

Saturday night, a post-Valentine fellowship for the singles & young professionals of Greenhills Christian Fellowship South Metro, truly glorified the Lord. It was a night of good coffee, great pasta, wonderful people & an AWESOME GOD! Alei & I shared our testimonies of how God brought us together. Our prayer for these singles & young professionals was that they might be encouraged by how God has moved in our lives. Alei & I talked about how God drew us closer to Him and set things right before allowing us to meet. We also talked about how our personal desires sometimes get in the way of God’s perfect plan for us, & how beautiful God’s will is.

The first part of fellowship was music, a little game to break the ice and then our message/testimony. I am very comfortable speaking to young adults especially sharing with them what I have been through & what the Lord has taught me. I talked about how awful I was as a son in the past & how I honor my parents now. It is only by the grace of God that I am able to speak of what I have been through. God is my reason for living, He gave me life that I may glorify Him & do the calling He has for me. Alei & I believe our ministry to singles & young professional is to encourage them in their walk with the Lord.
My wife talked about how selfish desires can hinder us from knowing the will of God. She had experiences in the past where God had to break her & make her whole again, for His glory. It is true that when people follow the perfect will of the Lord, they become truly blessed.

The message ended up with a question and answer time. Some of them asked about honoring the parents & bringing the relationship to the next level (marriage). We praise God for giving us wisdom to answer those questions in line with biblical principles. Alei & I believe that no matter how old the sons & daughters are, they are commanded to honor their parents. In Ephesians 6:3 honoring the parents has a corresponding promise, “that all may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” It is a blessing to honor our parents in our relationships with other people (dating & marriage relationship). When we honor our parents, we honor the Lord as well.

Alei & I hope to encourage more young people & singles in their walk with God & in seeking the Lord’s will for them. It is our desire that people be drawn closer to God and experience His perfect love.

Coffee, Tea and Purity

February 21, 2011

This coming Saturday Alei & I have been given the privilege to speak to singles and young professionals about our testimony & “true love waits”. It is our desire to see the singles and young adults of our church walk in the will of the Lord. We are truly excited to encourage them & speak of how God will orchestrate the events in their lives as long as they surrender to His perfect will. God wants the best for us, that is why He has a plan for our lives. Alei & I are two different individuals, from different cultures but we serve one Almighty God. He put us together because that is His perfect plan for us. I don’t want to imagine what life would be like if I didn’t surrender & follow God’s amazing plan for me.

So, please pray for us as we prepare to speak this Saturday, February 26 at Greenhills Christian Fellowship South Metro. To God be the glory!

Hallelujah!!

February 9, 2011

Praise God for His goodness! We called St. Luke’s Clinic & inquired about the result of my wife’s sputum test & she is negative for Tuberculosis. We didn’t receive any calls from the clinic so we kind of assumed that it was negative, but confirmation is always good.  Alei & I thank the Lord for working on our behalf. Delays happen for a reason, and we are very blessed that we have a God who causes all things to work together for good for those who love Him. It’s been
snowstorm after snowstorm in Mass & if we were there during this time we wouldn’t be able to visit our relatives, friends & supporters.

Thank you friends & family who have remembered us in your prayers. We will see you all soon.

“The Lord is my Shepherd… Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:1a & 6, ESV.

Big Day Today!

February 8, 2011

Big day for Alei & I today! We did not receive any news from St. Luke’s Clinic (regarding her sputum tests) over the past two months. We are scheduled to call them up later on today to know what the result is. We will let you know as soon as we know. My wife & I are trusting the Lord’s timing for our furlough, He has the best plans for us. We are both excited to see how the Lord will make things happen. Today is the day.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11, ESV
